Like the metamorphopsis of a butterfly our webstore is ever-changing; finding beauty in reinventing itself. Bringing together new and vintage items to create class, elegance, and originality within decorating and lifestyle.

Through creative buying and hunting for merchandise, Island Butterfly, offers amazing prices on new and resale "one of a kind...extraordinary finds".

We are solely owned and operated by a mother - daughter team. Scharlene and Carla Leonard dreamt for a long time of owning a store. Each brings their own character and diversity which create this stores unique personality. They enjoyed shopping on second-hand adventures for years and began being complimented often on their selection for the fine amongst the junk. Scharlene, an artist/jewelry maker for 20 years, participated mainly in art shows (aka Mom).

Carla practiced as a massage therapist, as well as was a bookkeeper for a large shellfish business. So with Carla’s business skills and Scharlene's artistry they both combined their creative vision to form Island Butterfly. Our store was opened in March 2005 and has been going strong ever since! Working with family is a blessing and Carla gets to bring her daughter to work so she never misses anything. Our customers have enjoyed watching her grow up. Carla’s daughter has a unique play area behind our desk where she can hang out. Soon we will be training her to greet the customers!

Our store is located in a beautiful eastern shore town called Chincoteague, Virginia. Chincoteague is a small island known for its’ rich history, saltwater cowboys, wild ponies, wildlife, and seafood!
